About the event
This book is a collection of photographs taken between 2019 and 2024 on the Isle of Thanet, at the eastern tip of Kent. Thanet poet Sarah Tait has written poems to accompany the images.
Thanet, once an island cut off from the mainland by the River Wantsum, is a place of deep history, rich ecologies and shifting human tides.
Together with the poems, the photographs pay tribute to the beauty, challenge and unique character of this special place.
Mike Goldwater is a documentary photographer and photojournalist. A founder member of the British photo agency Network Photographers, he has worked on both assignments and self-directed projects throughout his career.
Previous books include Indus Journey, Promised Lands, Acqua, and London Underground. Winner of two World Press Awards and the Tom Hopkinson Magazine Photographer of the Year, Mike has worked extensively in Africa and Latin America and Asia.
